On August 27, 2021 Nancy Sherman (Ajemian) passed away in Oakland, CA surrounded by her loving family.
During the 80s and 90s Nancy was the Executive Director of Harmonium, Inc., a non-profit dedicated to advancing the well-being of children, youth and their families. During Nancy’s almost 30-year tenure, Harmonium grew from a small community nonprofit to one of the largest social service providers in San Diego County, serving thousands of children, teens, and their families.
Nancy Sherman was a dedicated social worker, advocate, and leader. Nancy led a life full of creativity and learning. She was a passionate community leader in the many cities she lived over the course of her life. Nancy sought to create community through food, arts and culture via social work, non-profits, neighborhood projects, and permaculture.
Since 2016, Nancy was actively involved in developing the Soja Community nonprofit in Oakland, CA. Soja Community’s mission is to create a culture of health that enables persons of all ages, backgrounds, and fitness levels to lead healthier lives now and for future generations.
A memorial celebration of her life is planned for a later date. If you are interested in attending this event, please send an email to her son Peter Ajemian at info@sojamindbody.com.
